The book documents the ostracism of women both from public policy and from the theological development of the western world and uses the work of other authors to substantiate Chittister's contentions. This ostracism has limited both the growth and the vision of the world. Chittister uses the life of Jesus as a format for the spirituality which she see so critically hinges on the embracement of feminist values rather than the condemnation of those values.
