Leadership Characteristics: Learned, Innate or Both?
[ send me this report ]
This is an 8 page paper discussing leadership traits and whether or not the traits can be learned, are innate or both. Tutorial suggestions are inserted throughout the paper in square brackets. Theories of leadership whether historical or modern day all seem to include certain elements some of which appear to be learned and can be taught and others which can only be described as innate traits. Characteristics needed for good leadership include the ability to motivate people within an organization, the ability to communicate the mission of the organization and the ability to promote positive team work in order to increase production among other elements. Regardless of the fact that these elements can be taught within programs and are sought in individuals within organization, traditionally exceptional leaders also possess a vision for the future and ways in which to apply that vision successfully and a great deal of charisma. The elements of vision and charisma may be more difficult to learn and may be described as innate. Leadership courses will continue to be taught and guidelines for successful leadership will continue to be published which will contain essentially elements necessary in today’s leaders and leaders who have learned and apply these guidelines will no doubt be successful. However, based on historical leadership studies, those leaders who excel beyond the others will not doubt possess learned skills but also have the advantage of the innate elements of charisma and vision as well. Major Psychological Theories and the Cause and Effect of Oppression and Neglect in the African American Community
[ send me this report ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing major psychological approaches in relation to the result of oppression and neglect on the African American community. Currently, the African American population within the United States has been found to have high levels of stress, anxiety, low self-esteem and high levels of self-destructive behavior. Psychologists and sociologists argue that the cause of generations of neglect within the educational and social systems and oppression may have led to these psychological problems. Using five major psychological approaches which include behaviorism, functionalism, psychoanalytical, structuralism and Gestalt, the differences in the application of the theories to the African American community basically show that in order to reverse the trend of these psychological and societal problems, mental health professionals and educators must be aware of the psychological factors unique to the African American community. A 5 page paper discussing application of Abraham Maslow's humanistic psychology to the needs of business. Maslow's theories may be overstated in the belief that people are intrinsically good and intrinsically motivated to improve themselves and their stations, but they have been found to be overwhelmingly useful in organizational management and employee motivation enhancement. Successful application in business depends on moving from one level to the next, however. As Maslow states, the qualities of any level cease to be motivational once the individual achieves and sustains that level. Includes one chart. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
