Salinger's 'The Catcher in the Rye', but none is more compelling than Holden Caulfield's critique of phonies. 'The Catcher in the Rye' brought the reader a teenager that seemed to grow tired and weary of school and the world around him. Hypocrisy and phonies were everywhere.
